
Unique views of the extreme Universe
newASTROGAM will make pioneering observations of the most powerful Galactic and extragalactic sources, elucidating the nature of their relativistic outflows and their effects on the surroundings. It will determine the origin of key isotopes fundamental for the understanding of supernova explosion and the chemical evolution of our Galaxy.

Breakthrough mission concept
newASTROGAM will open a new window to the study of the non-thermal Universe from space with Gamma rays in the energy range from 100 keV to 3 GeV - with a line sensitivity in the MeV energy range much better than previous generation instruments. It is based on an advanced space-proven detector technology, which will achieve unprecedented sensitivity, angular and energy resolution combined with polarimetric capability.

For a broad community
The mission is designed to be an ideal partner for future multi-messenger observatories. It will provide unique data of significant interest to a wide astronomical community. Expressions of Interest are welcome at any stage of the project - meet the people behind newASTROGAM!

Next steps
newASTROGAM is our proposal for the upcoming ESA call for M-class missions. The step-1 proposal was submitted on May 21st, 2025. We'll post regular updates on the mission status and next steps here.
